Put the “Meaningful” in Meaningful Use: Experts Sound off at HIMSS15

Federal incentives are drawing national scrutiny. At HIMSS15, MSLGROUP Boston’s senior media and content strategist Don Fluckinger asked CIOs of large healthcare systems and other health IT industry leaders to find out where we are – and aren’t – with meaningful use of electronic health records in the midst of Stage 2 and the vision of Stage 3. Here are insights from three of those thought leaders:

Marc Probst, CIO of Intermountain Healthcare and CHIME board member, admits that we “still have not achieved interoperability” and “it will take more mandate to do so.”
Right now, CIOs’ plates are as full as they have ever been, claims Russ Branzell, president and CEO of CHIME. They have the ICD-10 deadline looming, loose ends to tend to for Stage 2 and Stage 3 close by, and myriad process changes, such as data management, to name a few items on their to-do list.

“What is the similarity around care coordination, population health, patient engagement and interoperability?” asks Shahid Shah, founder Netspective Communications. We are looking for real value-based reform from a patient care and payment perspective. Is the investment worth it?

If meaningful use affects your business, MSLGROUP can help you participate in the conversation. If you want to learn more about our strategic communications programs, please contact Doug Russell (781-684-0770) in MSLGROUP’s Boston office.

And stay tuned for more great video insights from this year’s HIMSS conference!
